Epoxy Flake vs Solid Colour: Which Floor Is Right for You?

Advice · 3 Oct 2026

The two most common epoxy floors are flake and solid colour. Both are tough and easy to clean, but they look and behave differently. Here's how to choose.

Flake floors

A flake floor has coloured vinyl chips broadcast over the base coat until it's fully covered, then sealed with a clear topcoat. The result looks a bit like granite or terrazzo.

  • Hides dirt and marks: dust, tyre marks and small chips are much less noticeable.
  • A little more grip: the chips leave a slight texture under the topcoat.
  • Best for: home garages, laundries, workshops and home gyms.

Solid colour floors

A solid colour floor is one even colour, usually grey. It's the standard in warehouses and factories.

  • Clean and simple: a crisp, uniform look that's easy to line-mark.
  • Shows more: dust, scuffs and tyre marks show up more than on flake.
  • Best for: warehouses, factories and commercial spaces, often with non-slip added and aisle line marking.

Choosing a colour

For flake, mid-tone blends like greys with lighter and darker chips hide the most. Very dark or very light blends show more dust. Browse our flake colour options and photos of finished garages, and we'll bring physical samples to your free site assessment.
