Pool Surround Resurfacing: Options, Colours & Costs

Guide · 3 Oct 2026

Pool surrounds take a beating: chlorine, salt, sun, bare feet and constant wetting. If yours is cracked, stained or lifting, you don't always need to rip it out. Here are the options and what to think about.

Your options

Re-lay pavers or tiles. Looks great new, but it means removing the old surface, and pavers can lift or sink if the ground underneath moves. Grout lines need upkeep.

Polished or honed concrete. A smooth, modern look, but it needs a sound slab to start with and can be slippery if it's finished too smooth.

Spray-crete resurfacing. A non-slip coating sprayed over your existing concrete surround. There's no demolition, and it's finished neatly up to the coping. This is what we do.

Why colour matters

Dark surfaces get very hot in a Sydney summer. Light colours such as pale sandstone or beige stay much cooler underfoot, which is why we steer people away from charcoal around a pool. Browse the lighter shades on our colour chart.

Slip resistance

Around a pool, grip matters more than anywhere else. Our pool surrounds get a fine non-slip broadcast texture designed for wet areas, so the surface stays grippy when wet.

Chlorine, salt and care

The sealer we use around pools is made for chlorinated and salt water. What does damage a surround is acid washing, so keep acids off it. A hose and soft broom is all it needs.

Timing and cost

A typical pool surround takes 2 to 3 days. It's ready to walk on after 24 hours and you can use the pool again after about 72 hours. Pool surround resurfacing starts from $70/m². Read more about pool surround resurfacing or see our resurfacing cost guide.
